Can't Live Without ... Eucerin Dermo Capillaire Calming Urea Scalp Treatment

Can't Live Without ... Eucerin Dermo Capillaire Calming Urea Scalp Treatment

AQUA · UREA · METHYLPROPANEDIOL · SODIUM LACTATE · LAURETH-9 · GLYCYRRHIZA INFLATA ROOT EXTRACT · GLYCERIN · LACTIC ACID · ARGININE HCL · HYDROXYETHYLCELLULOSE · PEG-40 HYDROGENATED CASTOR OIL · CETRIMONIUM CHLORIDE · PHENOXYETHANOL

Like many an Indian child, my sisters and I would take turns to sit cross-legged on the floor, while Ma vigorously massaged coconut oil into our scalps. This ritual took place every Saturday evening, we would leave the oil in overnight and wash it out the next day.

I know many people swear by this method for a healthy scalp and shiny hair. But it never really worked for me on either front, even with other types of oil. After the massage my scalp would itch and after shampooing, I never felt any difference to my scalp. I think sometimes I would over cleanse the scalp to get the feeling of oil out. As I dried my hair, my scalp would feel drier than ever.

The only thing I have ever found really works to keep my scalp hydrated post-shampoo is the Eucerin Dermo Capillaire, a leave-on treatment to calm dry, itchy scalps. And to my knowledge, this is a unique product on the market.

It comes in a 100ml squeezy plastic bottle with a long nozzle under the twist-off cap. The nozzle helps apply the product precisely, so you can get to the scalp and not cover the hair in the solution. I don't squeeze the bottle, the product dispenses nicely in a drip-drip fashion just by tipping the bottle. And because the nozzle head twists off it's a really good bottle to wash out and reuse.

The solution is thin and if you rub it between your fingers, feels like a non-sticky very watery gel. I tend to dispense very little and leave it, but the instructions do say to massage it in and if you apply too much it will trickle down if you don't. Although it's not specifically designed to, it feels amazingly cooling on application which soothes the scalp if you have scratched it.

What I find so unique about this product is that it moisturises my scalp without any oiliness whatsoever. You can of course get leave-in hair oils for use on dry scalps but my hair type gets greasy from these sorts of products. I apply the treatment after I have washed my hair and again after heat styling. In between washes I use whenever and wherever my scalp feels a bit itchy and it hydrates and stops that itch in its tracks.

This product keeps my scalp in such good condition that I haven't had to use a steroid scalp application for a few years now. So if dryness has you scratching your head (boom-boom!), give this a go.
